Dulce De Leche Croquembouche

Expressing creativity, trying out new things and taking on challenges in cooking and baking – are my primary reasons and motivation for food blogging. Because of blogging, I met friends that I would have otherwise not known and these friends, sometimes are fearless and throw in a challenge or two and inspire and motivate me to do some fearless things. The Dulce De Leche Croquembouche is the result of a challenge thrown in by one such friend, Jenni of Pastry Chef Online, whose tagline is Fearless in the Kitchen. This fearless pastry chef challenged us to make Valentine’s-themed croquembouche. Now …

Pumpkin Roll – Let’s do pumpkin a little differently!

Of course you must have noticed. If you have been reading my blog regularly, you must have noticed that I haven’t done ANY pumpkin posts this year. In our home there used to be a pumpkin season.  It would start when we would carve pumpkins  out for Halloween, then roast the seeds for snacking on, and make the delicious butternut squash rolls that even kids love or make the curried butternut squash soup.  But this year, we have done no such thing. In fact we haven’t made a single pumpkin related thing all fall. But then Holidays are sort of …

Classic Chocolate Truffles

What is it about a sphere of chocolate that is so alluring, seductive, enticing! I am speaking about the good old chocolate truffle and it’s captivating charm. Is it the fact that it is made from chocolate? That would be reason enough for me to be,(ahem!) hooked to it. Or is it because at some point in History both the chocolate and the lumpy little fungi have been associated with being an aphrodisiac? Is it all of the above? Chocolate truffles originated in …

Swedish Princesstarta : Daring Bakers

In a “celebration” of past Daring Baker and Daring Cook challenges, Lisa challenged all of us to search through the Daring Kitchen archives and pick any one we’d like!  Since  the Swedish Princesstarta has been on my mind for months if not years, I knew I finally just had to do it. This challenge was actually posted by Korena of Korena in the Kitchen in May, but I was not able to finish it then.  It has been a challenge to actually finish things on time, after the car accident.  Things that took me moments to do, now take an overwhelming amount …

Homemade Yogurt & Kesar Pista Shrikhand – with the Daring Cooks!

Yogurt making was something I started doing when I was ten. I am not kidding. While we cleaned up the kitchen after dinner, my Grandmom would put the leftover milk from the day to heat gently. And then it was my job to check the temperature and add the starter, and let the yogurt do its thing. There was however only one problem. There was no recipe to follow. It was not 1 tsp to a cup of milk or anything like that. I was supposed to guess the quantity of milk and adjust the amount of starter accordingly. …
