All opinions are my own.
Here is a puzzle for you. What is Slimy green inside, has seeds like cucumber, tastes like kiwi and cucumber together, has horns and a bright sunset yellow garb? The Kiwano Melon. It has its origins in Kalahari, Africa, where it grows wild. The cultivated horn melon usually comes from New Zealand or California.

You may or may not find the kiwano melon in your neighborhood grocery store, but there is a higher chance of you finding in your local Sprouts market. Over the years, Sprouts has been my go to place to find exotic or speciality fruits like the passion fruit, kiwano, cherimoya and my beloved vegetable Kohl Rabi. I love buying local but there are times I love trying out things that look unusual and may or may not be local. The kiwano melon, for example.

The check out time is always interesting. People in check out line most often have a question or two about my “shopping”. Remember, I live in Colorado and it is a very friendly place and people ask questions. And people answer. Only difference is that five minutes later I am still speaking and the discussion has already moved from what the thing is to what I am going to do with it. The husband now refuses to go grocery shopping with me and the teen wouldn’t be caught anywhere near me in grocery store!! ROFL It has been suggested that I try home delivery of grocery when I am not buying from the farmer’s market. If only they knew how much more I talk to the farmers. Hehe.

Having said that, they do enjoy my unusual gifts from the store. Like this Kiwano Ginger Martini was made by the house mixologist who also happens to be the regular dishwasher and Oh husband! He enjoys making cocktails and made this for us on the weekend. We just couldn’t get enough of this refreshing cocktail.
